Help with GrammarFix for Mac.
Getting started
After you install GrammarFix from the Mac App Store, open it once. Its icon appears in the menu bar, and Settings opens so you can choose how fixes are made.
- To fix text: select it in any app with a Services menu, then press your shortcut, or right-click it and choose Services › GrammarFix: Fix Text.
- To give one fix its own request, such as "make it shorter" or "translate to Spanish", use GrammarFix: Fix with Instructions.
- Your shortcuts start as Control-Option-G and Control-Option-H. You can pick any keys you like in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services › Text.
Common questions
GrammarFix isn't in the Services menu
Open GrammarFix from your Applications folder once, then try again. If it's still missing, go to System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services › Text and make sure GrammarFix: Fix Text is turned on. Most apps have a Services menu, including Slack, but some, such as Microsoft Teams, don't.
The shortcut does nothing
Another app may already use the same keys. Choose a different shortcut in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services › Text. Make sure some text is selected first.
The Apple on-device model isn't available
It needs macOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence turned on in System Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri. On other Macs, add your own API key for OpenRouter, Claude (Anthropic) or OpenAI in GrammarFix Settings.
My text didn't change
If the reply doesn't look like a corrected version of your text, for example an answer to a question in it, GrammarFix leaves your selection as it was. If the text had no mistakes, nothing needs changing.
Bold and italics were lost
Formatting is kept in apps that share rich text, such as TextEdit. Apps that share only plain text, and big rewrites such as translations, get plain text back.
I want my original text back
Your last 10 fixes, original and corrected, are under Recent Fixes in the GrammarFix menu. They're cleared when you quit.
