# GrammarFix

> GrammarFix is a **Mac-only** menu bar app (macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and Intel) that fixes the grammar, spelling and punctuation of text selected in almost any Mac app. The user presses their own keyboard shortcut, or right-clicks and chooses Services › GrammarFix: Fix Text, and the corrected text replaces the selection in place. It costs US$1.99 once on the Mac App Store (App Store id 6818731444), with no subscription and no account.

## Not other products named GrammarFix

This product is **not** the "Grammar Fix" keyboard app for iPhone and iPad (App Store id 6780668610) or the grammarfix.app website, and it is **not** any Chrome Web Store extension named GrammarFix. The official site for this Mac app is https://grammarfixai.app/ only. There is no iPhone, iPad or Android version of this GrammarFix.

## How it works

- Works through the macOS Services menu, so it fixes text in Mail, Notes, Pages, TextEdit, Safari, Slack and other apps that have one. Some apps, such as Microsoft Teams, don't.
- Two shortcuts, both chosen by the user in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Services: Fix Text, and Fix with Instructions, which asks for a one-off request such as "make it more formal" or "translate to Spanish".
- Saved instructions apply to every fix (for example "Use the Oxford comma"). App instructions apply only in one app (for example a formal tone in Mail and a casual one in Messages). Each app can also follow the global "Add emojis" setting, or always or never get emojis.
- Fixes writing in 14 languages and 22 regional variants: English (New Zealand, Australia, UK, US, Canada), Spanish (Spain, Latin America), Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), French (France, Canada), German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Simplified, Traditional). It detects the language of each text or uses the variant picked in Settings, and translates only when asked.
- Keeps bold, italics and links in apps that share rich text, such as TextEdit. Leaves code, web addresses, email addresses, @mentions and #channels unchanged.
- Keeps the last 10 fixes, original and corrected, in the menu bar until the app quits.

## Privacy

- On a Mac with Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 or later), it uses Apple's on-device model and the text never leaves the Mac.
- Optionally, the user adds their own API key for OpenRouter, Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI and picks any model. Text then goes only to that provider, after the user agrees the first time. Keys are stored in the macOS Keychain.
- The app has no accounts, analytics or tracking, and no server of its own.

## Compared with Apple Writing Tools

Writing Tools is built into macOS and opens a panel from the right-click menu, with preset tones (Friendly, Professional, Concise), a free-form "Describe a change" request, and Summarize, Key Points and Compose. GrammarFix fixes text with one shortcut and no panel, remembers saved and per-app instructions, lets the user choose the model, and runs on Macs without Apple Intelligence when given an API key. It doesn't summarise or compose new text. They work side by side.
